This Privacy Policy explains how GetCaptions ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and protects personal information when you use our service at getcaptions.io (the "Service").
1. Information We Collect
- Account information: email address and name provided at sign-up or via Google sign-in.
- Your Content: the videos and audio you upload, and the subtitles and projects you create with the Service.
- Usage data: pages visited, actions taken, IP address, browser type, and device information.
- Payment data: processed by Paddle.com Market Limited (our Merchant of Record). We never receive or store your full card number.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide, operate, and maintain the Service (including generating subtitles);
- To send transactional emails (billing receipts, account notices);
- To respond to support requests and communicate important service updates;
- To detect and prevent fraud or abuse;
- To comply with legal obligations.
3. How Your Video Is Processed
Speech recognition runs on our own servers — your audio is not sent to a third-party transcription service. To improve subtitle text quality and translation, the recognized text (not your audio or video) may be processed by our language-model provider (OpenRouter). Your video files are stored only to let you re-open and edit your projects, and are deleted when you delete the project or your account.
4. Sharing Your Information
We share information only with the service providers that help us run GetCaptions:
- Paddle.com Market Limited — payment processing (Merchant of Record);
- Supabase — authentication and database hosting;
- Cloudflare — content delivery and security;
- Google — optional sign-in (OAuth);
- OpenRouter — language-model processing of subtitle text;
- Law enforcement — only when required by applicable law.
We do not sell your personal data.
5. Cookies
We use only cookies that are strictly necessary: an authentication session cookie and a language-preference cookie. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.
6. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. After you close your account, your data and uploaded content are deleted within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
7. Your Rights (GDPR)
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data;
- Rectify inaccurate data;
- Request deletion of your data;
- Export your data in a portable format;
- Object to processing or request restriction;
- Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

8. Security
We protect your data with industry-standard measures: HTTPS/TLS encryption in transit, access controls, and managed, regularly-patched infrastructure.
9. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

Your data may be processed outside your country of residence (for example by Paddle, Supabase, or Cloudflare). Where this happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced via email or in-app notice at least 14 days before they take effect.
